Assistant Coach- a second adult who is assisting the Coach.
Autonomous - not controlled by others or by outside forces; independent.
Banner - signage made by the teams displaying who they are for the opening ceremony at RoboRAVE International.
Blog - a website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.
Blogger - an individual who is responsible for writing the Blog entries.
Category - the classification for a group of players consisting of divisions and teams.
Challenge - specific competition which a team has designed and programmed a robot to accomplish. Examples are NXT, Corporate, and Fire Fighting
Coach - any adult who is responsible for managing the registered teams.
Corporate Challenge - competition requiring a robot to follow a ¼" line with two "t" sections to deliver a payload and return to home base in less than three minutes. (It also requires a corporate sponsor's logo on the robot and a signed letter from the sponsor.)
Delivery - at least one Ping-Pong ball placed inside the tower.
Division - the highest grade level the team is competing. The highest grade level on a team determines whether a team is Elementary, Middle, or High School: Below 6th grade: Elementary, 6th to 8th grade: Middle School; 9th to 12th grade: High School.
Elementary Challenge - competition for 5th grade and younger students to demonstrate their robot in action
Engineering Report - a full report containing project data and information.
Fire Fighting Challenge - competition requiring a robot to maneuver around barriers and extinguish four candles in less than three minutes
Heat - a three minute run with points awarded for specific tasks accomplished by the robot.
Home Position - the starting position for the robot at the beginning of the heat.
NXT challenge - competition requiring a robot to follow a ½" line with one "t" section to deliver a payload and return to home base in less than three minutes.
Payload - any number of Ping-Pong balls.
Player - any member of a 2 to 4 person team.
Playing Field - the designated competition course.
Prize Money - money earned based on division, team, and rules.
RAVE - stands for Robots Are Very Educational.
Robot - a machine that can be programmed to do a task and is autonomous.
Rubric - criteria for scoring a specific task, i.e., Engineering Report, Blog or Video.
Successful Run - a Robot going to the tower, delivering the payload, and returning to the home position unassisted.
Team - a group of 2 to 4 players competing as Varsity, Junior Varsity (JV) or C.
Video – a 90 second (minimum) film of team and robot meeting specific criteria.
