Fire Fighting Challenge
- The RoboRAVE International (RRI) fire-fighting competition requires designing and building a robot that will go through a model of a house and detect and extinguish a series of small fires (candles).
- The robot is initially placed in one of several designated start positions within the model home area and will start upon hearing the RRI competition official’s starting signal.
- It will then go through the house structure that is made of black painted wood. The walls are 38 cm high and 8 cm thick with any doorways (optional) 31 cm wide (all dimensions are approximate).
- The floor plan is shown in Figure 1 [1]. The robot must stay within the Fire-Fighting Arena as delineated by a 1/2” black line around circumference of said arena.
- Simulated wall sections and flame sources may be moved to any location determined by RAVE officials from round to round.
- However wall sections and flame sources must stay in current position until each round is completed.
- A round is deemed completed if each fire-fighting team has had the opportunity to attempt to locate and extinguish the four flame sources.
- Each robot must locate each of the four flame sources via a sensor(s) providing information to the autonomous robot controller.
