LINE FOLLOWING Challenge Workshops

For Coaches Only

What: Want to have a team that’s got the edge at the competition?  You’ll learn how in this workshop.  Coaches will build, program, and test an autonomous robot and learn the nitty-gritty details of competing at RoboRAVE.
Who: Adults with a team of kids, grades 3-12, from:

• SCHOOLS (public, private, charter, BIE, homeschool)
• GROUPS (Scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, YWCA)
• INDIVIDUALS (Parents coaching kids)

When: September and January; see news
Where: Albuquerque                                                                      
How much: FREE
What you need to bring: laptop, robot kits if you have them, FOOD (Our facilitators get hungry!)

 

For Players and Coaches

What:  A hands-on workshop where players along with their coaches build, program and test a Lego NXT robot in preparation for the LINE FOLLOWING challenge.
Who:   Students in grades 3-12 and adults (we ask for a 1:7 ratio of adults to kids) from:

• Schools (public, private, charter, BIE, home school)
• Groups (scouts, Boys & Girls Clubs, YWCA)
• Individuals (parents coaching kids)

When: throughout the school year; see news
Where:  Where there’s an interest and a group that wants us.  See a map (pdf, opens in a new page) of where we’ve held workshops and where we’d like to hold one.  To arrange aworkshop, contact Pam Feather, Pam@gotoif.org or Fabian Lopez, Fabian@gotoif.org.
How much: FREE to attend; hotel and meals are not included.
How many: The number of participants varies based on the ages of the participants and the number of facilitators. 
What you need to bring: Food for the day.  If you have them, bring a laptop, robot, program software, and sensors.

FIRE FIGHTING Challenge Workshops

For Players and Coaches

 

What: Troubleshoot, redesign and test new ideas to win the FIRE FIGHTING challenge, using different surfaces, programs and platforms.  This is a hands-on workshop.
Who: Open to any team and/or coach that wants to compete in the FIRE FIGHTING Challenge.
When: October/February or November/March; see news
Where: New Mexico Tech University, Socorro NM
How much: FREE to attend; hotel and meals are not included
Materials to bring: Your already-built robot, program software, laptop, sensors, and FOOD.
